August 14, 2009 - I'm Pregnant!

The week of August 14th Johnny and I were headed to St. Louis so that Johnny could attend a business conference. We were leaving on the 11th and returning on the 13th. The night before we departed for Missouri I was feeling faint and had been extremely exhausted in the weeks prior. I had to stop packing and lay on the bed to feel better. Surely this was the diabetes hitting me that runs in my family, I thought. I forged through it however and went to St. Louis despite how I felt. I also was experiencing a terrible bout of my heart racing and pounding loudly in my ears. I couldn't sleep at night due to the sound of it. Surely this was heart disease hitting me early, I surmised. Due to some other symptoms I was experiencing that are woman related, I decided to go out and pick up a pregnancy test at the Rite Aid on Old Hwy 5 before going into work. I took it home and nervously took the test. I left it on the floor of the bathroom to allow the time to lapse. Shaking, I leaned in to look before the time was up - PREGNANT - it read. I immediately started crying. I think the crying was a mix of hormones and fear of the unknown.

I drove to work thinking how I was going to tell Johnny. I called him just before I arrived and asked him to come down to the parking garage to meet me to help me carry some things into the office. I placed the pregnancy test on the passenger seat and as he approached I told him to get in. He opened the door not taking his eyes off of me as he could tell that something was on my mind. I finally nodded toward the seat and he looked down. He asked, "You're pregnant?" in a tone that was asking "is it really true?" We hugged for a long moment and as he smiled intensely, I cried. That day was Friday, August 14th 2009.
